Thanks to Dianabol, CAS 72-63-9Bears Claim Third At NCAA Championships
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - When the Cal men's water polo team got its season started in September, the goal of returning to the NCAA Championships hinged on how quickly and completely a young group of Bears could come together with a group of key veterans intent on continuing a legacy of excellence.

So, as the Bears wrapped up their 2015 campaign Sunday with a 20-9 win over UC San Diego in the third-place match of that very tournament, head coach Kirk Everist's squad left Los Angeles with a successful season behind them and the promise of good things yet to come.

As far as Sunday's match was concerned, Cal (24-7) made sure to leave its mark early and often. Senior Thomas Agramonte, playing his final match as a Golden Bear, opened the scoring and Pedro Stellet joined the party with a goal of his own. The next three Cal goals belonged to freshman Odysseas Masmanidis, the second of which came complete with a spin away from UCSD goalkeeper Jack Turner.

Fellow freshman Johnny Hooper continued the offensive onslaught with Cal's next two goals, and senior Colin Mulcahy found the net in his final collegiate game to give the Bears an 8-2 lead after one period. Conor Neumann, Vassilis Tzavaras, Thomas Carroll and Mulcahy netted goals in the second period and Cal took a 12-5 lead to intermission.

UC San Diego scored the first two goals of the second half but Hooper had an answer, getting Cal on the board to make it 13-7. Chandler Jarrels added a goal just before the end of the period and the Bears maintained a seven-goal advantage through three quarters.

In the fourth, Mulcahy added his third and fourth goals, Luca Cupido scored his first of the game, Hooper and Masmanidis each scored their fourth of the match and Agramonte whipped in a backhand laser as the Bears finished off the win.

"It was a good effort by the guys. They came out and played hard," Everist said. "We focused on the fact that it was the last opportunity for this team to ever play with each other. I knew that was really important to these guys. They've really developed a great culture and great bond with each othrer. They really enjoyed playing with each other so, with that opportunity to play one last time as a group, it was important to make sure and go out and make it happen. Everybody got a little run todayand I thought they played hard. They came out and finished it off the right way."

The fact that Cal ended its season on a high note Sunday provided yet another highlight in a season full of them. The Bears dropped a 9-6 decision to USC on Saturday in a NCAA semifinal but Sunday's win gave Cal its most victories (24) since its last trip to NCAAs in 2010. Only three seniors - Agramonte, Mulcahy and goalkeeper  Peter O'Laughlin - played in the season-ending tournament, and Cal will welcome back a wealth of experience in 2016.

"The top two scorers on the team were freshmen and they're so unselfish, which is crazy to say with how many goals they scored," Agramonte said. "This team is only going to get better and I'm proud to have been a part of it."
