Testosterone acetate, CAS 1045-69-8: Transgender man opens up on learning about shocking pregnancy halfway through sex change
Kayden Coleman, a transgender man, thought he was gaining weight when he noticed his swollen stomach. Unbeknowst to Coleman, he  was 21 weeks pregnant.

Whoa, baby.

A transgender man is speaking out about his shocking pregnancy, which came a decade after transitioning from womanhood — a process he was still undergoing when he learned he was carrying a 21-week-old baby.

Kayden Coleman, now 29, was stunned with a bloated tummy and back pain in 2013.

At first, he even joked he should get a pregnancy test when he was hit with the pain.

“I never thought about getting pregnant. Because of the male hormones, I didn’t think it was a possibility. It was definitely a surprise,” he told the Mirror Online.

The joke wasn’t too funny as doctors confirmed a baby was on the way.

“It felt like there was a pillow under my stomach but there was no pillow,” he added.

Today, Coleman and his husband Elijah are parents to 22-month-old Azaelia.

The couple, who live in Philadelphia, started dating in 2012 and a year later were tying the knot and scrambling to prepare for the arrival of their baby.

The unexpected bundle of joy was made possible as Coleman had to take a six-week break from using hormones, in preparation for a double mastectomy.

“I was shocked. It took a while to process it. But I was also busy figuring out how we could make things work in such a short space of time,” he said.

Besides being a bombshell for the couple, it also forced Coleman to come out to friends and family who didn’t know he was transgender.

And, it wasn’t an easy reveal as it caused a brief rift with his partner’s family.

“That was the most miserable months of my life,” his husband said in one of the couple’s YouTube videos.

Coleman also got his share of awkward glances.

“This woman in a shop said to me, ‘Honey, you look like you’re pregnant’. I just laughed and said, ‘I am pregnant!’ She didn’t believe me,” he told the newspaper.

It wasn’t an easy delivery either, with Coleman telling the newspaper he felt like “an experiment,” being gawked at by medical students while in labor.

The road post-delivery continued to be hard as Coleman suffered with year-long postnatal depression.
Coleman's daughter is now 22 months old.
To ease the burden, Coleman had to quit his job and Elijah worked longer hours to care for baby Azaelia.

Now almost two years later, the family said they finally have their happy ending.

“Now it feels great. I couldn’t imagine, and don’t want to imagine, life without her. She is amazing,” Coleman told the Mirror Online.

The toddler refers to Coleman as “Daddy” and Elijah as “Poppy.”

They plan to explain the unusual pregnancy to her when she’s 5 years old.

“I don’t feel like we should have been parents all along but I feel like we are great parents now,” he added.

The proud parents said they don’t plan on having any more children.

Coleman isn’t the first transgender man to give birth.

Thomas Beatie, from Oregon holds that record. Known world-wide as “The Pregnant Man,” he announced his pregnancy in 2007.

Beatie lost the triplets he was expecting but has since had three children with his then wife.
