Avanafil report: STD epidemic getting worse in America 

A report just released from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says the rate of infection for sexually transmitted diseases (STD's) had a significant increase in 2014, with a few infections reaching record highs. While the rates of primary and secondary syphilis (the most infectious stages of the disease) have increased among both men and women, the data show that men account for more than 90 percent of all primary and secondary syphilis cases. 

The number of reported cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis in Los Angeles County far outstripped numbers reported in any other county in the United States: there were 548 cases of chlamydia reported in L.A. county in 2014, compared with 456 reported cases of the infection per 100,000 people nationwide. 

The group most affected by syphilis, however, is men who have sex with men (MSM). "Undiagnosed STDs cause more than 20,000 women to become infertile each year", the report said. 

Chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis are the most common STDs in America. 

There could be many other cases that have may not been diagnosed because the infections did not cause symptoms, which is typical of chlamydia and gonorrhea, and because people did not have adequate health care or decided not to get get tested. A rise in number of cases in syphilis has also been witnessed in 2014.

 "There is no clear single answer" to explain the rise in gonorrhea and syphilis, particularly among men, Bolan said. "I think the ramifications of having these diseases is wider ranging than people really appreciate", she said. Most of the cases were seen in younger people belonging to the age group of 15 to 24 years.

Even greater risk surrounds the people infected with STDs, as CDC researchers acknowledged. Why? Surveys show that young people fall in the range of 50 percent of the 20 million STD cases every year. While they have made progress in reducing teen pregnancy, STD rates in Macon County still remain higher than the IL state average, said Brandi Binkley, Director of Health Promotion and Public Relations. "And even if you do that, there are still a million reasons why you should be screened". 

Annual screening for chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis is required for sexually active gay and bisexual men, according to CDC.
